First Place We have our winners in last week’s haiku contest! I used random.org to select the first place winner, Cullen. Here’s his haiku poem: The grasses are green dew is sparkling here and there earth’s morning beauties.  Second Place Second place goes to Andrew K., age 9, who wrote my personal favorite and won a World of Animals StoryBuilders card deck. Here’s his haiku about a yellow jacket: buzz-black, yellow bug in garden flying, eating stinging all the worms It was a tough choice because there were some very clever and well-written entries. But in the end, Andrew’s won out because he: Followed the format. Avoided “to be” words. Made every word count. Picked a nature theme. Thanks to everyone who participated. Keep up with your haiku!

The following is a paraphrasing of a conversation I had with another photographer regarding the Mamiya RB67 that I was shooting with hand held at the starting line of the 2010 John Beargrease sled dog marathon. Him: Are you a professional? Me: No. Just an amateur shooting for himself. Some small talk goes by. Him: So how many is it? 15? 18? Me: 20. (assuming he was asking how many exposures. I had a 220 back on the camera at the time.) Him: Eyes get bigger Me: Wait. Were you asking about exposures, or cost? Him: Cost. Me: Oh! Only about $300. Him: More large eyes A moment of silence goes by. Him: Is that a film camera? The other photographer apparently assumed I was walking around in ten degree weather with a $20,000 digital medium format camera. If only I was as wealthy as Tyra Banks. If only. AND THEN, that same CEO contracted another firm when his identity was stolen? Well now, in one of the largest FTC-state coordinated settlements on record, LifeLock and its principals will be barred from making, (sic) ANY MORE, deceptive claims and required to take more stringent measures to safeguard the personal information they collect from customers. According to the FTC: The FTC will use the $11 million it receives from the settlements to provide refunds to consumers. It will be sending letters to the current and former customers of LifeLock who may be eligible for refunds under the settlement, along with instructions for applying. The player controls a spaceship that floats around in two-dimensional space propelled by its engines and carried by its inertia. Comets are also floating around in the same space. Anything that goes off one side of the screen re-emerges on the opposite side. The player’s goal is to destroy all of the comets without colliding with any of them.
